The 5-month-old was found by her own mother who called the daycare staff and asked how her daughter was doing. After the staff told her the girl hadn’t been seen, the worried mum rushed over only to find her daughter dead in the van parked outside the daycare.

While no one was arrested in direct connection with the tragic death of the infant, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the daycare would be held responsible for the death of the 5-month-old girl.

As the Department of Children and Families later revealed, Ewing’s daycare “did not notify DCF that they were transporting children. Therefore, transportation standards were not being monitored.”

However, the DCF also stated the daycare wouldn’t be issued an emergency suspension order that would force them to seize all operations.
