Daisy Coleman, Who Shared Her Ordeal In Netflix Documentary ‘Audrie & Daisy’ Took Her Own Life


Daisy Colemen, who shared her rape ordeal in the Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy, has committed suicide.

The 23-year-old’s body was found after her mother asked police for a welfare check.

In an interview with TMZ, Coleman’s mother, Melinda, said: “She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone.

“She was my best friend and amazing daughter. I think she had to make it seem like I could live without her. I can’t. I wish I could have taken the pain from her!”

The rape survivor’s SafeBAE organization shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram and revealed she had ‘struggled with healing for years.’

She spoke in the 2016 documentary about how she was raped at the age of 14 but no one was convicted.

After the documentary was released, Coleman said she found it difficult to listen to then Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White’s belief that she and her friend Paige were as guilty as the boys.

Coleman, who suffered victim-blaming from the community, had attempted to commit suicide at least four times.

She was also bombarded with hateful remarks from people on social media, with many calling her a ‘liar,’ a ‘whore,’ and a ‘skank.’

The SafeBAE organization said in a statement on Instagram: “We are devastated to share with all of our inspiring supporters that we have suffered an irreplaceable loss. Our co-founder, sister, Daisy Coleman ended her life by suicide today.

“As many of you know she’s struggled with healing for years and had been making incredible progress, but healing is never a straight path and can often have setbacks.

“But she would want you all to know how much she loves this work and all of you who have joined us in it.”

The organization continued: “Nothing inspired her more than knowing she could help survivors and work to prevent sexual violence. We want you all to know that our entire team is here to help and support you, as we all grieve this loss.

“We want to remember Daisy for the incredible person she was and the legacy she has given us with SafeBAE. We will continue to do the work she was so proud of and dedicated to building.”
