It is important to clean your home at least once a week.
Aside from getting rid of dust and other allergens, you can also make lots of discoveries, such as finding the missing pair of your socks, comb, and your already forgotten belongings.
While this couple cleaned up the home of their deceased relative, they also accidentally threw away £15,000 ($19,650), and the cash ended up at a recycling center.
The couple from Burnham-on-Sea took many boxes to the Recycle for Bathnes depot after cleaning up the house.
Fortunately, staff found the hidden fortune while looking for some electrical cable and the honest employee contacted Avon and Somerset Police to inform them about the money.
Police officers checked CCTV footages to find the vehicle that had gave the boxes away and they managed to find the couple’s address using the registration plate of the car.
When officers arrived, the couple told them they had been cleaning up the house of a deceased relative when the dropped off the boxes at the Recycle for Bathnes.
The couple went to the police station and officers confirmed their explanation matched up so the two were reunited with the cash.
Somerset Live reported that the couple told the cops that their deceased relative had a habit of hiding cash around the house. They were more shocked to know that £15,000 almost disappeared into thin air.
Avon and Somerset Police thanked the staff for their assistance in returning the money to the couple.
“We would like to say a big thank you to the staff at the recycling centre,” officers wrote on Facebook. “Without their diligent attitude, integrity and assistance, the family would never have known about the money found, and we would not have been able to return it to them, especially in time for Christmas.
“Happy New Year everyone, from all of us at Avon and Somerset Police.”
The Bath and East Somerset Council also wrote in response: “We are proud of our waste and recycling teams who work hard all year ’round, and this is a lovely example of their diligence and professionalism.
“Our eagle-eyed member of staff who spotted the money is currently having a well-deserved Christmas break.”
