28-year-old Augustina Montefiori from Argentina and 32-year-old Scott Marmon from New York have been physically separated for nearly a year despite being an item since 2017.

While Scott proposed to the love of his life back in January when he was planning to move to her country, the pandemic interrupted their plans when the borders were shut down.

Since the lovers were unable to get back together due to not being married, they decided to speed things up by tying a knot in the world’s first legal wedding via Zoom.

Despite being 6,000 miles apart, the couple was granted a marriage license by the state of Utah and allowed to marry via Zoom in front of a Utah judge.

As Augustina revealed, she and Scott met through a family friend when she was participating in a cultural exchange in Denver, Colorado.

Following the 28-year-old’s return to Argentina back in 2019, Scott soon came up with the idea to follow his girlfriend and propose to her.

After the January 2020 proposal, Scott returned to the States to finalize his plans to move to Argentina permanently. While his flight was due in March, the lockdown forced the young man to postpone his travel abroad.

“I had a flight date for March 22, but on March 14 all borders were closed due to the pandemic and then we were separated,” Scott explained.

“They never understood that my boyfriend came to marry and live in this country, that he was not traveling as a tourist,” Augustina added.

“Before every question, the answers were always negative and they told us that if we were not married, Scott could not enter the country.”

Fortunately, the couple found a way around their issue by tying the knot in an online, 19-hour ceremony.

Following their wedding, Scott is now working on his family reunification visa which will allow him to travel to Argentina and start enjoying life together with Augustina.
