One of the world’s biggest economies, China is the leading manufacturer of solar power plants, and now it is planning to prove its salt in the outer space!
The scientists from China speculate that if they are successful in developing a solar power plant in space, they will be able to generate enough electricity to light up an entire city.
Well, this will combat our dependence on the conventional power sources that contribute to air and water pollution.
Though this alternative power source will come for an unimaginable expense, Beijing has pledged to invest 2.5 trillion yuan ($367 billion) in the development of renewable sources of energy, and it is believed that China will be financially capable by 2020.
Recently, Science and Technology Daily talked about the high hopes scientists from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation with the success of this project until 2050.
According to the scientist’s lasers and beams can be easily used to direct the energy to Earth. Then again, they need to study the human, natural, and biological hazards this source of energy can cause.
Some also see it as a military threat. Well, when Beijing has access to lasers and beam which can light up a city, there is no way that the country cannot use it to destroy others.
China has been very late when it comes to its aerospace advancement. However, in the reign of President Xi Jinping, billions are being invested in the domain, contributing to the fast-paced development of the nation.
For rejuvenating the nation, another ambitions plan by China discussed in the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference on Sunday said that they are now planning to send a rover on Mars by 2020.
According to the United States National Space Society (NSS), harnessing solar power from space is a leap which can contribute a lot to the good of humanity.
The hurdles which show up here is- the availability of an environmentally viable, low-cost launch vehicle to take the solar power plant into space. Plus, a medium to transfer the power back to earth safely.
