A Lidl shopper spat on a care worker and called her a “virus spreader” while she was shopping in her uniform.
Amy Hall, from Portsmouth, Hants, works for Verina Daly Care and is caring for elderly and vulnerable people at their homes amid coronavirus outbreak.
When she was out shopping at Lidl in the Waterlooville in her uniform, a middle-aged man shouted at her before spitting on her and called her a “virus spreader”.
The 28-year-old carer shouted back: “You will spread the virus”.
Amy was left shocked after the disgusting incident. She said she can’t believe some people have this view about them just because they are caring for sick and vulnerable people.
She said: “We’re obviously trying to help our elderly to get through this difficult time and don’t appreciate being spat at.”
Amy said elderly people are worried and anxious during this difficult time and they are helping them to calm down.
She said she was buying her mother a bunch of flowers to leave on her doorstep when the man spat on her and called her a “virus spreader”.
Some people came forward to support her and even let her get to the front of the queue.
Amy said: “I shrugged it off and carried on with my day.”
The owner of Verina Daly Care, Verina Daly, said the care workers are like any other human being and they are working really hard to help elderly and vulnerable people.
She said the staff at Lidl and young shoppers helped and supported Amy as they knew the man was in the wrong.
Ms. Verina said Amy was in her tunic and fleece and only went to the shops in the middle of her rounds.
