Every country and region in the world has its own peculiar dishes and favorite food.

In Britain, one of the most favorite snacks is the chip butty.

For those not familiar with this food, it’s basically a sandwich made up of buttered white bread or a bread roll with a filling of “chips” (aka French fries to Americans). These are often added with condiments such as brown sauce, ketchup, mayonnaise, or malt vinegar.

Given the popularity of the snack, many have wondered why fast-food chains haven’t come up with their own versions…until now.

Burger King has come up with its own take on the chip butty in New Zealand. Introducing it as part of the chain’s Change Range Menu, the BK Chip Butty costs only NZ $2 (99p).

The meal’s description in the BK website goes: “With crispy golden fries, mayo, and ketchup, nestled between two soft buns, His Royal Fry-ness, the CHIP BUTTY has arrived. A dish fit for a King at a price fit for everyone.”

Not only that, you even have the option of adding bacon for just NZ $1 (50p).

BK stores in the UK actually offered a chip butty that had a chargrilled hamburger patty with lettuce and mayo back in 2013. But now they’ve decided to go back to the roots and use the fries as filling.

BK has never been averse to trying out new and inventive dishes. For example, last year they introduced a halloumi burger on the menu.

It’s perfect for vegetarians and cheese lovers and following a successful trial in Sweden, had made its debut in BK branches across the UK.

The halloumi burger comes either as a meal or just the sandwich itself. But what’s even more astounding is the fact that you can double up on your slice of halloumi.

Burger King said in a statement: “Halloumi lovers across the UK rejoice and mark your calendars – the 8th of July will see Burger King launch the highly-anticipated Halloumi Burger nationwide.

“Made with crispy and delicious halloumi cheese from Cyprus, the Halloumi Burger will have lovers of this Cypriot delicacy filled with excitement.”

There’s still no word if the chip butty will eventually make its way to UK stores but one can always hope.
