Indeed, they really are more than just your pets; they are your life-long friends.

Sadly, however, these four-legged buddies have shorter life span than humans – which means there comes a time when we have to say good bye. And it’s never easy.

She first met her dog, Charlie Bear, when she was 19. Back then, she was living in New York, and Charlie was only 12-weeks-old.

Initially, Kelly wasn’t even planning on adopting a dog – but when she saw Charlie in the shelter, everything changed.

“It was just kind of like, yeah he’s mine,” said Kelly in an interview with The Washington Post.

For the next 15 years, Charlie was right beside her. Tragically, though, just when he celebrated his 15th birthday Charlie was diagnosed with a brain tumor. And Kelly knew that she was going to lose ‘her person,’ which is how she called him.

Charlie walked down the aisle, but he could not make it back. That’s when Kelly’s sister, who was the maid of honor, picked Charlie up.

It was an extremely emotional moment for everyone at the wedding.

And she had the whole thing captured on tape. As you can see, this scene of a large lab being carried down the aisle is both incredibly sweet and heartbreaking at the same time.

By the end, Kelly could not help but break down in tears.

Just a week after the wedding, Charlie was put down. But even though Charlie is not with kelly anymore, their memories will be cherished forever.
