Students and children have always been taught to be polite and respectful not only to their teachers but also to their classmates and schoolmates.

Teachers serve as students’ second parents and this is why we call them Teacher, Miss, Ma’am, or Sir. But who would expect that a 10-year-old boy would get punished for calling his teacher Ma’am?

10-year-old Tamarion Wilson, a student at the North East Carolina Preparatory School in Tarboro, North Carolina, was punished for calling his teacher Ma’am.

The teacher told her students not to call her Ma’am, which is why the young student received punishment.

When Tamarion came back from school, his mother, Teretha Wilson, was presented with a sheet of paper as she had to sign it to finish her child’s punishment.

Wilson said to ABC 11 that she asked her child what happened, and what her child informed her left her even more shocked.

“He said he got in trouble for saying ‘yes ma’am’,” she said. The furious mother said that the teacher already warned her students not to call her ma’am but when Tamarion accidentally called her ma’am, he heard the teacher said that if only she had something to throw at him, she would do it.

According to reports, Tamarion is suffering from memory loss and hallucinations but his teacher wasn’t aware of his medical condition.

But people believe that what the elementary school teacher did was already out of the line.

Tamarion’s parents said they taught their kids to be respectful. In an interview with ABC, the boy’s dad said: “As a father, to feel kind of responsible for that…knowing that I have been raising him and doing the best that I can, it’s not acceptable.”

Teretha met with the principal the next day and requested her child to be moved to another class.

The school said in a statement: “This is a personnel matter which has been handled appropriately by the K-7 principal.”
