This is a heartbreaking moment a two-year-old boy accidentally shot his mother.
21-year-old Meriah Carlyle and her partner Logan Keller, 23, have been charged with child endangerment after the toddler found a loaded handgun on a bedside table in their home in Dyersville and shot his mother.
Police officers arrived at the home at around 6:15 pm and found the mother bleeding. She was rushed to Findley Hospital in Dubuque and was airlifted to Iowa City for treatment.
According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family, Carlyle has undergone three surgeries as the bullet damaged her femur and femoral artery.
The page adds: “We are trying to raise as much as possible for her, so she can pay off her medical bills from this terrible accident.
“Please help meriah, as she will have a long road to recovery so anything helps.”
According to investigators, both Keller and Carlyle were in the room with their child but they did not notice their son had grabbed the handgun.
In another incident, a 1-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after he accidentally shot himself with his father’s handgun.
The toddler’s father, Demonte Jarrell Walker, has been charged with endangering children. Authorities said that there were many adults and kids when the devastating incident happened in Columbus, US, around 11:30 am.
The child was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition but he is expected to recover, WSYX reported.
One person commented: “A go fund me for these idiots?! If they can afford guns they should have been able to afford health insurance.”
Another wrote: “how can a 2 year old pull a trigger? it’s not that easy for a young child.”
