A mother has shared her heartbreaking story to tell parents to “cherish every moment” with their children as her three-year-old son is living his final days in lockdown.
Three-year-old Xander Deeley was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor in June 2019.
Despite three major operations and other intensive treatment, his parents, Jo and Matt Deeley were told it was incurable.
Xander is in isolation for 12 weeks at his home in Solihull, West Midlands and these are his final days.
His heartbroken parents and his seven-year-old sister, Elora are trying their best to cherish every moment and make Xander’s final days the best days of his life.
Jo said: “It does upset me when I see people moaning and groaning about being stuck indoors while the country is in lockdown.”
Jo said people will come out of this but unfortunately, her child won’t be here after it ends.
Jo said she wants parents to realize how precious and important their children are for them and make memories with them.
She told the people who are still going out for sunbathing and picnics to think about the vulnerable people like her son before breaking the lockdown rules.
She said: “To see people still going out, sunbathing and having picnics in parks, like nothing has happened, is upsetting. We’re all in this together, and we need to think about the most vulnerable – people like Xander – and how to protect them.”
She said people are still not taking the virus seriously despite thousands of deaths.
Jo said she can’t take Xander to the park or to the beach due to the lockdown but still they are trying their best to make him happy and enjoy every moment with him.
Talking about Xander’s diagnosis, Jo said he was a perfectly healthy boy before he was diagnosed with cancer.
After an MRI scan, the parents were told Xander had a brain tumour.
He underwent three major operations and remained in the hospital for weeks and now living his final days in lockdown.
Jo wants to raise awareness about brain tumor symptoms in children by sharing her story and pleads parents to make memories with their children.
