The Golden Girls Star Betty White Reveals Plans For Celebrating 99th Birthday


The Golden Girls star Betty White shared how she plans to celebrate her birthday.

She turns 99 on January 17 but in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said that her daily routine has been changed by the pandemic.

“You probably didn’t ask, but I’ll tell you anyway. What am I doing for my birthday?” White said.

“Running a mile each morning has been curtailed by COVID, so I am working on getting The Pet Set re-released, and feeding the two ducks who come to visit me every day,” she shared.

The national sweetheart created The Pet Set, a series that started in 1971 where celebrities would visit with their beloved pets.

The show, produced by her husband Allan Ludden, ran for 31 episodes. It featured celebrities such as Michael Landon, Bill Bixby, Merv Griffin, Doris Day, Barbara Eden, and Rod Sterling.

In an interview with People, White said: “I am blessed with good health so turning 99 is no different than turning 98,” adding the importance of a “sense of humor.”

“Don’t take yourself too seriously. You can lie to others – not that I would – but you cannot lie to yourself.”

The Golden Girls icon also likes to keep a sunny outlook on life, saying: “I don’t like the other side. The positive side is a lot more fun.”

Her tips for happiness and longevity are: “Again, having a sense of humor. Just looking at the positive side and not dwelling on the downside.

“Takes up too much energy being negative. Also having a good agent who keeps me busy all the time.”

While is best known for playing Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls, which ran from 1985 to 1992.
