A baby boy has been photographed holding his mother’s failed contraceptive coil, and the photos quickly went viral on social media.
The 34-year-old mother, who has had two other children, had inserted the intrauterine device (IUD) two years ago to prevent her from conceiving.
But the device came out at the same time as her baby boy, and the little angel grabbed the coil after he was born, the VN Express reported.
Obstetrician Tran Viet Phuong of Hai Phong International Hospital in Vietnam took photos of the baby boy clutching the contraceptive coil.
“After delivery, I thought him holding the device was interesting, so I took a picture. I never thought it would receive so much attention,” Phuong said.
The obstetrician also said that the IUD may have been dislodged from its position and the mother became pregnant.
The IUD, which is inserted into a woman’s uterus, releases either hormones or copper to prevent sperm cells from fertilizing egg cells.
This was not the result the woman had imagined when she got the device fitted but she is just relieved that her son was healthy.
Another photo shows the IUD lying next to the baby boy, who was born weighing 7lbs.
One internet user commented: “See, here’s proof that many women have gotten pregnant even when birth control was used because no birth control is 100% effective, hence no woman or teenage girl should ever be forced to carry a pregnancy against her will.”
Another wrote: “Bless that little baby, and the mum. I’m just picturing the little embryo going ‘right, we’ll just get this out of the way and I’ll be right.’”
A third added: “You can’t get rid of me that easy woman!”
