Apple has issued a warning to iPhone users, urging them not to replace screens with a third party.
It could create problems from multi-touch issues to performance problems.
Apple warns customers about new phone regarding their displays repaired or replace by third-party companies citing several potentially adverse outcomes like loss of certain features, brightness, and loss of some touch-screen functionality.
Apple says customers who decided to have their phone repaired by a non-certified technician will be reminded by some rather persistent notifications.
‘You will see a notification on your Lock screen for the first 4 days that you use your device and in the Settings app for 15 days. After that period, you can find the notification by going to Settings > General > About,’ said the company.
As noted by The Verge, Apple also alludes to the possibility that it will keep close track of those who are served warnings regarding their displays, meaning it could affect Apple’s willingness to fix other issues in the future.
‘You might see an additional notification that says, “Apple has updated the device information for this iPhone.” This means that Apple has updated the device information maintained for your iPhone for service needs, safety analysis, and to improve future products,’ says the company in the support document.
Apple’s issues about uncertified display repairs mirror a recent effort by the company to deter third-party battery replacements.
Apple has slowly started to warm to the idea of extending its constellation of Apple-certified services.
The company started a repair program last month, that will provide more independent phone repair stores with ‘the same genuine parts, tools, training, repair manuals and diagnostics as its Apple Authorized Service Providers.’
A certified Apple technician will be able to join its program for free, meaning nearly any third-party repair spot could now be allowed to provide iPhone repairs, at least for older models.
