The airport authorities soon announced the incident and the flights coming in were then diverted to the nearby airports like Valencia and Murcia. After a while, they even accepted that the flight cancelations are taking place due to the whole incident.

More chaos raised as a spokesman signaled that the airport will remain closed until midday of Thursday which meant no flights will land or take a flight from the airport.

The decision to suspend the air traffic coming in and out was made after the regional government’s emergency services coordinator said that the fire is still on and the process of extinguishing it will go one for the entire night.

The spokesman even asked people to contact their airlines to see whether their ticket has been canceled or they have arranged another flight for the passengers from an alternative airport.

The reason for the fire breakout is not disclosed yet.

A passenger who was waiting in the car park said she was in her car when she saw the first smoke and then flames coming out of the airport. She said that the fire must have been on a roof and I saw it for a good 20 minutes.
