A father-of-six was discovered lifeless shortly after the passing of his mother whom he wasn’t allowed to see during her final days due to coronavirus measures.
46-year-old Glen Southern from Lancashire, England, “was a gentle giant” and a father of six who took his own life in response to his mother’s death.
According to the reports, Mr. Southern wasn’t permitted to see his 71-year-old mom, Brenda, during her final days before she passed away from COVID-19 at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
As Glen’s wife, Samantha, revealed, her husband was a kind and loving man and nobody saw his death coming.
“Glen was a gentle giant. He was a good man, very kind, very caring. Nobody saw it coming. He was the one everyone went to with their problems,” the heartbroken wife said.
As Samantha suggested, however, her husband was keeping the pain of losing his mother inside him until it proved to be too much to bear.
“He acted like he was all together, but he wasn’t. He couldn’t go and see his mum in the hospital. He was broken after that. He couldn’t say goodbye,” the 41-year-old said.
A day after disappearing from his home in Lytham, Southern was discovered dead in his office by his children. As an autopsy revealed, the father died from hanging.
“It has destroyed us. I always say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but it’s so hard. There’s so much out there about suicide awareness, but it’s very difficult to help somebody if you don’t know they need help,” Samantha said.
“He was a proud man. He wouldn’t have wanted to be seen as struggling, which is very sad because we’re a big family and we’ve always had each others’ back.”
May he rest in peace. Sending prayers for the family.
