A community in Utah is grieving the tragic death of the mayor, Ren Hatt, from Green River.
Sources from local media outlets shared how he was reportedly killed in a collision with a semi-truck on Friday, as shared in a local post on social media.
Officials from the Utah Highway Patrol mentioned in a release that this fatal crash occurred on the US Route 6 at about 9:40 pm local time.
This is when a semi-truck was traveling westbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, it started to drift into the eastbound lanes and rammed the front passenger side of a Hyundai Palisade. The semi truck then veered back towards the right side of the westbound lanes.
This forced the Hyundai towards the right, coming to rest on the right of those eastbound lanes.
This caused the instant death of the mayor, who was driving the Hyundai, while the driver of the Freightliner semi-truck survived and remained uninjured.
The Utah Highway Police mentioned that an investigation into this crash is currently ongoing, and that impairment is not suspected. The city of Green River was quick to first pay tribute to Hatt for his many contributions while sharing a post after the accident: ‘Our community is heartbroken today!”- it read.
