55-year-old Tourist Spent 21-Hours Roaming The Sea On An Air Mattress Until Found ‘Sun-fried’


A 55-year-old Russian holidaymaker was found seven miles out to sea on an inflatable air mattress, sun-fried for 21-hours.

Olga Kuldo was rescued by a border patrol plane that was searching the waters for illegal immigrants off the coast of Crete. Olga hails from Zelenograd, Russia and she was swept out of the sea at the resort on the north of Greek island.

She was caught in a strong current; she roamed the ocean for one night and was brutally burnt by the sun the next day.

Frontex officials said in a statement that in the morning of 28th June, a Slovak patrol plane was deployed by the company in Greece and it was ultimately involved in a search operation followed by a phone call from the Hellenic Coast Guard requesting the patrol officers to help them search for a missing person in the sea above Rethymno, Crete.

After a couple of hours of searching, they finally located Olga, floating on an air mattress. She had floated 9-nautical miles away from Rethymno. Hellenic Coast Guard Vessel was immediately deployed upon the information given by the patrol officers.

She was holidaying with her husband and daughter and was staying at the resort. She was finally saved and was immediately taken to the hospital.
