A British man who cared for an elephant more than three decades ago has been reunited with the adorable animal in a heartwarming reunion.

When zookeeper Peter Adamson came in front of his old friend Kirsty, the Asian elephant instantly recognized him as the man who took care of her a long time ago.

Adamson looked after Kristy when he was a keeper at Calderpark Zoo in Glasgow, Scotland.

The elephant, born in 1967, was brought to the zoo in the 1970’s but was taken away from Scotland to an unknown place in 1987.

Adamson tried to find Kirsty’s whereabouts by searching online and succeeded to track the elephant after a long time, thanks to his German contacts.

He learned that Kristy was in Germany, living in Neunkirchen Zoo in the western state of Saarland. After tracking the elephant, Adamson didn’t take long to pay a visit to her.

As the two of them saw each other, they shared a warm hug. The man stroked Kristy and the elephant responded by curling her trunk around her former minder.

The Scotsman said at the moment: ‘Of course, I was wondering if there was any truth to the phrase “elephants never forget”.

‘That she allowed me to get close and accepted me was a very emotional experience for me. I will always keep that memory in my heart.’

According to zookeepers, Kristy recognized Adamson by his voice.

After the reunion, the British man said he’ll be visiting the elephant as much as possible now that he knows where she is.

Kristy was moved from Glasgow to Chester in north-west England, where she met Judy – her future best friend.

The pair were then brought to Dublin in 1994 where they lived until 2005. After that, they were finally shipped to Neunkirchen Zoo in Germany.

Kirsty is described as ‘intelligent and willing to learn’ as well as ‘dominant over members of her species’ by her current zookeepers.

‘After a colorful life with several moves around European zoos she has found her retirement retreat with us,’ the zookeepers add.
