Zac Efron was left hospitalized and has nearly passed away after developing a deadly infection during his trip to Papua New Guinea where he was shooting a survival documentary.
The 32-year-old American actor took a trip to the deep jungle of the country in Oceania where he was filming a documentary called ‘Killing Zac Efron’ together with his crew and the tour guide who took him to secluded villages.
Ironically, however, ‘Killing Zac Efron’ almost cost the actor his life as he contracted a “form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection” only days before Christmas.
In order for the star to receive the best care he needed to survive, Efron was immediately flown from Papua New Guinea to Australia where he was hospitalized at a private medical institution.
For days, the 32-year-old ‘17 Again’ actor remained under constant watch before finally being dismissed and allowed to return to the States.
According to the reports, Efron most likely packed his bags and left for Papua New Guinea at the beginning of December to work on his documentary that will feature him going “deep into the jungle of a remote, dangerous island, falling off the grid for 21 days” as per The Hollywood Reporter.
“I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level. I am excited to explore any uncharted territory and discover what unexpected adventure awaits,” the actor said in November before taking off to Papua New Guinea.
