Sanna Marin From Finland Became World’s Youngest Prime Minister At 34


Sanna Marin, a member of parliament and minister of transportation, from Finland is going to be the youngest prime minister in the world.

Marin will be the third female head of the government in her country, and will be succeeding Antti Rinne as the prime minister.

The lady was elected for the top post of Finnish Government through voting in the ruling Social Democratic Party.

Marin’s party came up as the largest party in the country in the elections held last April.

This gave the Social Democrats the authority to choose a prime minister from their MPs. In the voting that followed, Marin got 32 votes while her opponent Antti Lindtman grabbed 29.

The party is now ruling the nation of 5.5 million for this term.

Marin has acted as the vice-chairperson of the party and has been an MP since 2015. Until last week, she acted as the minister of transportation for the state.

The Finnish newspapers including the Ilta-Sanomat and Helsingin Sanomat have claimed that Marin will be the youngest sitting prime minister in the world to ever be.

Finland is currently holding the rotating presidency of the European Union and will enjoy the privilege till the end of this year.

The ruling party in Finland is expected to speed up the process of assuming Marin to the top office of their government so that she can prepare for the European Union Leaders’ summit to be held next week in Brussels.

The ex-prime minister left the office last Tuesday after the supporting party, the Center Party, withdrew their support because of a lack of trust.

The same party also criticized Rinne’s ruling abilities. They were also behind the massive strikes called in the nation’s state-owned postal service, Posti.

The November strike soon spread to all other major departments of the state.

According to a statement from the Social Democrats, they want to make Rinne the vice-speaker of the parliament. He will also be the party’s head until next summer.
