4-Year-Old Cyclist Gives Lorry Driver A Big Thumbs Up After He Gives Her Plenty Of Space When Overtaking

A 4-year-old girl cyclist has gone viral on the internet after she gave a big thumbs up to a lorry driver who left plenty of space as he passed her.

The incident happened on Sunday in Jedburgh, in the Scottish Borders when the little girl was riding a trailer bike behind her father.

In the adorable video, Rhoda Jones can be seen pedaling with all her might as several vehicles pass in the opposite lane.

Suddenly, a large timber lorry, driven by Danny from D&W Agri, passes by the little girl.

While overtaking her cycle, the lorry driver goes to the opposite lane to give her a wide berth – at which Rhoda gives him a thumbs up and shouts ‘Thank you!’.

Her father Tom Jones managed to record the beautiful incident. He shared the footage on Twitter and wrote: ‘So often we see or share videos of awful driving around cyclists, so this textbook pass from an exceptionally patient & careful HGV driver for D&W Agri coming into Jedburgh deserves sharing, as does Rhoda’s response! They’re not on Twitter but we’ve thanked the haulier directly.’

The footage went viral on the internet and garnered around 850,000 views.

Among the people who retweeted and admired the video were BBC presenter Jeremy Vine, who is himself a cyclist and a keen chronicler of bike incidents he captures on his dashcam.

Jones and his wife Katie from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, have visited nearly every place in Britain with their 3 children – 4-year-old Rhoda, 5-year-old Ruth, and 9-year-old Thomas. This time the family was visiting Scotland during the half term vacation of their children.

However, it wasn’t the first time little Rhoda had reacted differently to passing motorists. The 4-year-old occasionally gives a ‘Paddington Bear-type angry stare which would be enough to take some drivers off the road’, her father told Cycling Weekly. It was due to this reason, her father has turned on his dashcam.
