People getting tattoos is getting a lot more common as the stigma of bearing them is slowly wearing off.

But having the name of a lover tattooed on one’s shoulder or having a dragon inked on one’s arm is one thing, but extensively modifying one’s body takes a different type of temperament. It requires a willingness to go against established norms to do something with one’s body that not many other people are willing to do.

But 22-year-old Ethan Bramble, from Sydney, apparently has that special temperament in spades as he dubbed himself the “world’s most modified youth.” One look at him makes it clear why. Apart from sporting tons of tattoos around his whole body, including his eyeballs, he also had his tongue split.

Roughly half of his face is marked with blank ink and his earlobes were also stretched pretty far. While some of the marks can be considered artistic, others seem to be simple shadings of parts of his body.

In a recent appearance at Studio 10, he showed off silicon spiders embedded into his hands.

He explained: “I have always enjoyed how it looks. Growing up I was interested in Aztec design like nose poles and then as I got older I realized, wow, you can get more intense stuff done…you can get all kinds of weird and wacky stuff done.”

Although he’s brimming with self-confidence on Instagram, in private he does think heavily about what other people may think.

“I have terrible social anxiety so when you are out in public and so many people are…asking questions and wanting to take photos with you and it can get a bit overwhelming and when it is an everyday occurrence, that’s when it can get a bit frustrating,” he said.

As to what body modification he found most difficult, he pointed to his tongue splitting because of what it meant for him afterward. For instance, at first, he needed to drink water via syringe because he couldn’t control his newly modified tongue.

“It excruciating when you’ve just had your tongue cut in half, then it [the anesthetic] goes away and it all hits you at once,” he said.

Since Ethan is also a dad, the show’s hosts wanted to get his thoughts on whether he would allow his daughter to follow the same path that he took in terms of modifications.

He replied: “Once she turns 18, she’s allowed to do whatever she likes. I might let her get her ears pierced earlier, but that’s it.”
