Three McDonald’s employees have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in court in Florida claiming they have seen the general manager of the restaurant making racists remarks about POC workers and customers.
32-year-old Faith Booker, 33-year-old Augusta Moody, and 34-year-old Monica Scott have filed the lawsuit against the company on Friday.
According to the lawsuit, the experiences of the three workers ‘are particularly egregious examples of the serious harm that occurs when a corporation fails to take responsibility for the discriminatory conduct of its managers and thus permits an environment of pervasive and intentional racial discrimination to take hold at one of its corporate owned and operated restaurants.point 569 |

They also claim that they heard the manager making racists remarks regarding both black restaurant workers and employees and that she shortened POC workers’ hours after they confronted her about her words, according to Tampa Bay Times.
Speaking about the lawsuit, Booker said: “She treats black employees more harshly and says hateful things about black people that made me feel like crying.”
The lawsuit claimed that the restaurant manager at the branch in Lakeland, Florida gave POC workers cleaning tasks that were not included in their job description and poor performance reviews.
Peter Helwig, the workers’ lawyer, said that the manager’s attitude towards POC employees became aggressive but started in 2019.
Scott said in the news conference that when a POC diner asked for ketchup and grape jelly to be included in their order, the manager said ‘it’s always black people who want free stuff.’
The restaurant manager also said that POC are ‘aggressive and trying to fight’ and ‘all they want to do is smoke weed.’
The three workers said they were told to leave the restaurant after they presented a petition to management stating: “Employees who are treated unfairly aren’t allowed to achieve workplace success to their fullest potential.
“Allowing workplace unfairness to continue sends the message to employees that this type of behavior is acceptable. We demand management takes steps to keep all employees feeling respected and treated as equals while building a positive work environment.”
Both Moody and Scott said that their efforts to address the issue with the human resources have failed.
