According to New Hampshire-based Bonnie Kimball, she was terminated by Café Services after working at Mascoma Valley Regional High School for five years.

As the woman explained, she got kicked one day after giving free lunch to a student who couldn’t afford the meal.

“I’m just dealing with so much right now: the public, paperwork. One minute I’m mad and the next minute, I just want to forget it all happened. I guess I’m mourning my job,” Kimball said in an interview.

While the company refused to provide the reasons for letting go of Kimball, they claimed she “would not be let go because they provided this lunch to a student.”

The letter that Café Services sent to the employee, however, suggests otherwise. The note read:

“On March 28, a District manager was on-site and witnessed a student coming through the line with multiple food items that you did not charge him for. This is a strict violation of our Cash Handling Procedures, the Schools Charge Policy and Federal Regulation governing free meals.”

After the incident went viral, Café Services’ spokesperson released a statement that claimed the company “would never authorize an employee to not feed a student or staff member a meal.”

“Although we are not at liberty to discuss the confidential details regarding an employee’s employment or termination from employment, we can share that the company has policies and procedures in place that are shared with and acknowledged by team members,” the statement read.

“When established policies and procedures are not followed corrective action is put in place up to and including termination.”

Speaking of her beloved job, Kimball said that she and her colleagues “didn’t even call it work.”

“We got up in the morning, we took care of our families and we went to take care of the kids,” the distressed employee said.

According to Kimball, she only gave free lunch to the student that one time because he showed up hungry and with no means to pay for the food. Allegedly, the worker told him “tell mom you need money” before giving him a free meal.

As Kimball claimed, she was seen doing so by the district manager who asked her what she gave the boy before walking away. The following day, she was called into the main office and fired.
