A Subway employee was caught scratching the left cheek of his backside behind the counter while he was preparing a sandwich.
Shocked customers saw the grim sight at a Subway branch in Accrington, Lancs.
The person who caught the act shared the photo, which shows the Subway worker with his pants down while scratching the left cheek of his bum.
The caption reads: “Glad I don’t eat at Accy Subway. Worker stood scratching his a*s.”
The 30-year-old said to the Lancashire Telegraph: “It is absolutely disgusting and I won’t be going into that Subway again. I said to my partner, ‘have you seen that? You have just eaten and he is doing that.’
“It is just wrong on so many levels.”
The post gained thousands of comments from sandwich fans. One internet user said: “Lovely. Scratching his a**e then making the sandwiches.”
Another wrote: “Disgusting human, glad I’ve never been there.”
A third added: “Don’t get me started, people fingering tops of drinks cups as they hand them out, scratching their hair, under their arms, dealing with money and then food with ungloved hands, handing out spoons and forks holding the end that is used for eating – it’s time there was a full CRACK DOWN – no pun intended on cleanliness. No wonder people are getting ill.”
The photo also sparked jokes, with one commenting: “Subway is sh*t anyway, pardon the pun.” Another wrote: “Needs something to add the flavor.”
Someone else said: “Mmmm, extra sauce on that.”
Last year, another Subway worker was caught resting her feet on a counter in the preparation area. The person who spotted the horrific sight wrote on Facebook: “Bon appetit.”
A Subway spokesperson said to Sun Online: “Thank you for contacting us. We have high expectations of all franchise owners and their staff and require all stores to operate to strict hygiene standards.
“We have contacted the relevant franchise owner who is addressing this further with his staff.”
