A new study has found that women sleep better if they share their bed with a dog instead of a man.

The study was conducted on 962 adult women in the US by a team of researchers led by Dr. Christy L. Hoffman, a professor in the Animal Behaviour, Ecology, and Conservation department at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.

They found women who slept with a dog got much better sleep than women who slept with a man.

Researchers also found that women who slept with both a man and a dog were disturbed less by the dog, and the animal provided them a greater sense of comfort and security.

Comparatively, cats were as disruptive as men and didn’t offer the sense of security equivalent to a human or a dog.

The research also suggested that cats are a better choice for the night owls, as most of the dog owners went to bed earlier than their cat-owning counterparts.

However, Dr. Hoffman noted that a dog mightn’t be the right solution for everybody.

She told Broadly that the ‘keyword here is perception, this [study is based on] individuals self-reporting how they feel their sleep is affected.’

Dr. Hoffman added that it is ‘important to note that this is based on aggregated data and an average of responses, so getting a dog won’t solve everyone’s sleep problems.’

Perhaps, it makes sense as most of the dogs snore at night and they also get up frequently for taking a piss in the middle of sleeping.

Dr. Hoffman said their next step in future would be to see if sleeping with dogs had the same effects on men as they had on their female counterparts.

Meanwhile, it seems that a number of nice men need to sleep on the sofa so their better halves can make room for dogs instead.
