A 40-year-old radio presenter, who gave up on men after 10 years of online dating, has finally found her soulmate.
Verity Geere decided to stop dating men after a horrible date in October 2018 with a man who asked her to “lose a few pounds”.
Not only that man but Verity had become fed up with every man by the time after trying to find Mr. Right for ten years.
The 30-year-old told The Sun: “It wasn’t just that I was sick of wasting my evenings with guys I knew within minutes of meeting I was never going to have a relationship with, I also didn’t like who I’d become.”
She started online dating in 2008 when she signed up to sites like My Single Friend and eHarmony.
Before she started dating online, she would meet men at bars, at work, and through mates and had a five-year relationship before she started online dating.
She wanted to marry and have kids and was told to find her soulmate online by her friends.
She said: “Looking back, I quickly fell into the trap of using it as a way to feel good about myself. How many guys were interested in me, how many was I chatting to at one time, how many “likes” did I have?”
She signed up to every dating site, from Match and Tinder to Bumble and Happn.
She didn’t want to miss the chance of meeting The One so she wanted to join as many sites as possible.
In 2012, she met an American through Tinder and had her first date after talking to the man for several months.
Verity spotted a short, very overweight man at the bar and kept looking for her date. When the same man shouted her name, she realized he was her date.
She said: “I didn’t want to be mean, so I sat down and we chatted, but he produced a clipboard with his checklist of what he was looking for in a woman, such as “outgoing”, “petite” and his hair colour preferences.”
He then offered her keys to his apartment and asked her to wait for him there but Verity refused.
Verity said: “Some guys lasted a few dates, others were one-night stands. I lost count of the d**k pics and explicit messages I was sent.”
“One bloke “unmatched” me when I refused to sleep with him, while another asked me to belch in his face because it turned him on.”
She then dated many men who didn’t want to commit.
In 2018, she met a man on Bumble and dated him for six weeks but he ghosted her and never replied to her texts.
She said: “I’d be on a date, surreptitiously messaging someone else, because with so much choice, and competition, you feel you can’t risk focusing on just one person.”
She finally gave up on men after so many horrible experiences and the men she met were not ready to commit.
In 2018, Verity was chatting to her married colleague Dan at a Christmas work party who she always fancied from afar. But that night she was told he was recently divorced.
Then, they started dating and had their first date at a local pub.
Verity said: “We laughed all night, and it felt so natural compared to the many awkward dates I’d put myself through.”
After dating for six months, they moved in together and the couple is now happier than ever.
Verity says she is not against online dating but she lost her self-respect and it made her unhappy.
But with Dan, she became the best version of herself and is now relaxed and happy.
