Delray Beach Police spokesman Ted White said there were no signs of foul play.

“It doesn’t feel like she was taken against her will. It appears this was done by her own free will,” he said.

The photos showed firefighters pulling Kennedy out of the drain using a ladder and a harness. The woman had leaves in her hair and couldn’t stand up.

Reports say that she was rushed to Delray Medical Center for treatment of bruises and cuts. She also underwent a mental health evaluation after her mother told investigators about her history of mental illness.

Dani Moschella, Delray Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman, said Kennedy was very lucky to be alive.

She told the Sun Sentinel: “I don’t know how much longer she would have been okay down there. The idea that somebody might be down there for any length of time is disturbing. It’s dirty, dangerous, there’s snakes, rats, garbage, dirt and leaves, anything that’s on the street that washes into a sewer, and it smells terrible.”
