A 28-year-old woman broke down in tears after squirrel remains were left on her car’s door handle for the second time in a week.
Samantha Taylor, who is five months pregnant, first made the shocking discovery on her vehicle when she was about to go to work on Thursday morning.
Thinking it was just ‘kids messing around,’ she simply cleaned up her car and moved it to a different spot.
But only days after the first incident, she found another body of a dead squirrel on her Renault Clio’s door handle. That’s when she decided to talk to the police.
“It’s very distressing and upsetting to deal with,” she expressed. “I panicked – I wondered why somebody would do this.
“I called my mum in tears on the way to work asking her how to address it and she told me to call the police.”
Taylor claims her neighbor also experienced the same issue.
“It crossed my mind that I was being targeted but I couldn’t think of a reason why,” Taylor said. “We’ve lived here for five years, we get along with our neighbours – I don’t know who we would have offended to do this.
“I was speaking to someone else who said they knew somebody on a nearby street had also had it done to them, so it doesn’t sound like it’s just us.”
A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We received a report on Monday, September 28, of animal remains which had been left on the handles of a car on Duke Street in South Normanton.
“Officers from our local Safer Neighbourhood policing team are carrying out inquiries into the incident, which is understandably upsetting to find for the car owner, and may have involved pain and suffering for animals.
“If anyone has any information, please get in touch using one of the non-emergency methods below, quoting reference number 172-280920.”
