A woman from Grimsby in Lincolnshire went viral after she shared how she swapped drinks with a guy she suspected of trying to spike her.
Lily Powles was on a night out when a stranger kept taking her drink before she noticed him slip something into the glass.
The quick-thinking woman then swapped their glasses when he went to the toilet. She then later found him passed out in a puddle outside.
Lily shared her story on Twitter where it quickly went viral, with many people horrified by the incident.
“The same lad robbed my drink twice last night, and put something in my glass when he bought me one back,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I swapped our glasses when he went to the toilet and later found him laid flat out in a wet puddle.”
She added: “Thanks for taking one for the team whoever you are, rather you than me hun.”
But some people accused her of making the story up while others defended her online.
“Why is it all men saying it didn’t happen? Are they that protective of potential rapists?” one Twitter user wrote.
“So many men here who don’t believe this because they’re lucky enough not to live this as reality on a regular basis,” another commented.
“Woman manages to turn the tables on an actual thief/potential rapist = guys on Twitter: “Didn’t happen though”,” a third added.
Someone else said: “People who spike drinks deserve to be spiked themselves. I was spiked by a really ‘nice guy’ who asked me out the next day after trying to get with me in front of all my mates (it was potential his mate but he had to have known I was losing consciousness).”
Another shared: “I’m 100% sure I was spiked on Saturday. I had 4 drinks & 3 shots. I can handle my alcohol. I didn’t finish 2 of my drinks yet I cant remember leaving the club or anything after it. I seemingly knocked myself out on a wall at home. I still feel pretty bad now with headache & cramps.”
