27-year-old Emma Clarke said she now feels ‘ugly’ because of the severe injuries she sustained after a stranger suddenly attacked her on her way home.
The young model just competed in the North East Calendar Girls final that day but her happiness turned to despair when a 55-year-old man brutally punched her in front of her shocked family.
She said the attack was unprovoked and cops confirmed that the man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
Police also said that the man has been released under investigation.
“I can’t sneeze without the pain going right through to the back of my eyes,” Ms. Clarke told the Newscastle Chronicle.
“I’d had a brilliant night and the competition was fantastic…it had really helped improve my confidence as I suffer with mental health issues.
“This has knocked me right back. I now feel ugly and I look like something from the Muppets because of my nose.”
She added: “I’m just devastated and feel absolutely awful.”
Ms. Clarke also said she needs to undergo an operation to have her nose fixed.
“I went to see about it at the hospital and they said it is a canny bad break. They can operate but can’t do anything for the next five days.
“In the meantime, the pain is really bad. I’ve had a couple of codeine but I am in agony.”
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 11.55pm last night (Sunday), police received a report of assault at an address on Collin Drive, South Shields.
“It was reported that a 27-year-old woman had sustained injuries to her nose after being assaulted.
“Officers attended and a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing.”
