The woman who started a fire at a polling station in Pennsylvania was caught smiling on CCTV.
Police tracked down the smirking woman who was caught on surveillance camera trying to start a blaze on election day.
The woman, who is in her 20s, allegedly used a lighter and pieces of paper at West Willow Fire Company polling station in Lancaster County.
The suspect reportedly held a lighter against the interior wall before attempting to set papers on fire both inside a voting booth and on the wall, police claim.
She immediately fled the scene after people in the area noticed a burning smell.
According to the Pequea Township Police Department, people inside the polling station saw the fire right away and managed to extinguish it.
A spokesperson for the police said the suspect has been found and is at a ‘medical facility.’
The woman is set to be charged, the officer added.
“Police are investigating an arson which occurred at a Pequea Township polling location,” the Pequea Township Police Department said in a statement.
“The incident occurred on 3/11/2020 at approx 12.56pm at the West Willow Fire Company polling location at 192 West Willow Rd. in Pequea Township.
“Police are attempting to identify a white female in her 20s observed lighting, or attempting to light several small fires in the building.
“While waiting in line to vote she used a lighter to attempt to light an interior wall on fire. This was unsuccessful and she moved down the line where she attempted to light a piece of paper on fire which was hanging on the wall.”
The statement added: “After entering the polling room she lit a piece of paper on fire which was taped to the cardboard divider placed to separate voters.
“Persons in the polling location smelled smoke and noticed the fire and were able to extinguish it immediately.”
