A 101-year-old woman who was born during the Spanish Flu has lived to tell the tale of how she also beat COVID-19.
According to a CNN report, Angelina Friedman, 101, survived not only the Spanish Flu, cancer, sepsis, and two miscarriages but also COVID-19 after contracting the killer bug at her delicate age.
Despite being a high-risk patient due to her age, the woman, who’s staying at the North Westchester Restorative Therapy & Nursing Center, returned to enjoying her life following weeks of battle with the novel coronavirus.
Friedman, then Sciales, came to life amid the Spanish Flu pandemic while her family was on an immigrant ship set from Italy to the U.S.
Since Angelina’s mother died during childbirth, she and her sisters went on to live with their father in Brooklyn, New York, according to the centenarian’s daughter, Joanne Merola.
Since then, the survivor went through a number of difficulties including two miscarriages, sepsis, internal bleeding, and cancer.
As Merola explained to WPIX, a CNN affiliate, her mum has always been a survivor with “superhuman DNA.”
“She and my dad had cancer at the same time. She survived. He didn’t,” the daughter told WPIX.
“She is not human. She has superhuman DNA.”
Speaking of the lively centenarian was also Amy Elba, an administrator at the nursing home where Friedman’s staying, who confirmed that the 101-year-old returned to her old hobbies, including knitting, soon after officially beating COVID-19 on April 20.
“She’s super active. You couldn’t believe it for her age. Still doing her leisure activities probably that she’s done forever,” Elba told CNN.
