Woman Felt ‘Helpless’ As Airline Security Refused To Believe She’s A Female


A woman has opened up about her unpleasant experience at an airport and revealed how security officers refused to believe that she’s a female.

42-year-old Anna Turaeva is a powerlifter from Russia who was stopped by airline security while attempting to board a plane.

According to Anna, her gender was questioned by the staff whereas they allegedly asked her intimate questions and embarrassed her in front of other passengers.

“At the checkpoint they refused to let me pass through saying that it was written in my passport that I am a woman. It was humiliating,” the sportswoman explained.

“I was reprimanded like a child in front of people in the queue. [Asked] intimate questions. [They were] interested in who I am in my life – and in bed.”

At the time of the incident, Anna, who has won a series of medals in the powerlifting category, was attempting to board a Utair plane in order to fly from St Petersburg to Krasnodar.

“The whole queue was watching this anarchy, and I felt as helpless as possible in this situation. I was trying to prove that I am indeed a woman,” she added.

Despite the humiliation she was subjected to, Anna had remained calm and was eventually allowed to board the plane along with other passengers.

Following the unpleasant experience, the powerlifter lashed out at the airline as she insisted she should not be treated this way after everything she’s done to represent her country.

After Anna’s complaint went viral, Utair quickly apologized and vowed to investigate the matter.

“We apologize for the negative emotions you experienced. Such service is unacceptable. We will definitely check the actions of the airport employees who worked on your flight, and we will sort out the situation,” the airline told the 42-year-old.
