Loretta Weinberg has revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a visitor when she was only 13 years old. The 83-year-old state senator of New Jersey said she has never told anyone about how the man groped and forcibly kissed her.

The Senate majority leader shared her story about the terrible experience on her Facebook page. She said that she was only 13 when the incident happened and that moment stayed in her mind for decades.

I am 83 years old and I still remember the EXACT moment and EXACTLY where I was at age 13 when I was first horribly groped and forcibly kissed by a middle aged man who had been welcome visitor in my home.

And no I never told anyone till now. His name was Ben Laverty. And no I am not confused. And yes that was a long time ago.”

The story went live on social media on Friday at 1:39 pm.

After an hour, she added another post in which she mentioned that she revealed this years-old assault to let people understand of “how girls and women have been treated for generations.

Weinberg’s second Facebook post read:

I posted this today so people would better understand how girls and women have been treated for generations, And how most of us have reacted over some of those generations.

Each of these experiences are seared in our brains, in our emotions, and on our bodies. And no we are not confused. We know who our assaulters are and we know exactly where we were when they happened.”

Hopefully, this gives others the courage to speak up and fight their assaulters. It is difficult to share such experiences, but for most, speaking up is the only way to find inner peace.
