A Woman Faked Her Education And Work History On Her Resume To Land A $185,000-A-Year Job


A woman lied on her resume and mentioned false education and work history, she also faked “glowing” references to get a high-paying job with an Australian regional government.

Now, she has been sentenced to at least a year in prison.

Veronica Hilda Theriault, 46, was found guilty. She was convicted of deception, dishonesty, and abuse of public office. The charge is related to her 2017 application for the chief information officer role, which offers an annual salary of 270,000 Australian dollars (US$185,000).

Theriault worked with South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet for a month and earned about 33,000 Australian dollars ($22,500) before she was being fired.

She found guilty to all charges and was ordered a 25-month sentence with a non-parole period of a year.

It seems her list of lies is long, the court also heard that Theriault used a photo of supermodel Kate Upton as her LinkedIn profile photo, according to CNN affiliate 7 News.

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet told in a statement that Theriault “was appointed following a competitive selection process” but her capability and conduct got noticed after she started work in August 2017.

After getting the position in August, she also hired her brother, despite knowing that he had not the qualifications to perform the role.

Boylan considered Theriault’s mental health when giving her punishment, including her bipolar disorder, according to ABC.

“You fraudulently obtained employment for which you were paid a large salary and in the course of which you may have had access to sensitive material,” he said.

Theriault’s defense counsel told the court that she was “deeply ashamed and embarrassed” by the crime she did, ” according to 7 News.
