A woman has falsely called the police on a man of color who was sitting in his car while enjoying his tea and talking on the phone.
The incident happened in Portage County, Ohio, where Darren Cooper was sitting in his parked car when the police surrounded him and ordered him to show his hands before telling him to exit his vehicle.
According to the reports, Ravenna officers were responding to a report of a woman from a nearby office who insisted that the man had a gun.
As the police searched Cooper’s vehicle, they didn’t find any weapon. It also came to light that the father, who works for Summit County, was simply drinking his tea and talking on the phone at the time the report against him was made.
Furthermore, it was also revealed that Cooper actually has a concealed-carry permit even though he didn’t have a gun with him at the time.
“Sorry to startle you, when we get a call like that we gotta…” one of the cops told the father as the truth surfaced.
Following the incident, the father has called for the woman who reported him to be charged and suggested he could end up dead because of her false report.
While Cooper admitted the police didn’t come at him “with excessive force,” bodycam footage revealed that at least two officers approached the man’s car with their guns unholstered.
According to the Journal, the woman who made the report insisted that Cooper was waving his gun around.
“I really believe he was holding a pistol,” she allegedly said. “I’m pretty darn sure it’s a pistol.”
As Cooper suggested, however, the woman couldn’t be able to see what he was holding in his hands from the distance since she didn’t even get the color of his car right in her report.
“But if you don’t know the exact color of my vehicle, how do you know I had a gun?” the father told the Journal.
“I am happy to be able to share this story because my wife almost lost a husband, and my kids almost lost their father, over someone who thought I had a gun,” Cooper added.
“When someone’s life is on the line, as mine clearly was, attention to detail is of the utmost importance.”
