A fisherwoman got bitten by a poisonous octopus after placing the toxic animal on her face to take a picture with her catch.

Little did Jamie Bisceglia know that her ‘fun’ posing attempt would result in the octopus injecting the venom in her face.

Jamie, who works at a fishing tour guide business, envisioned the perfect photo for the contest she was joining after catching the poisonous octopus.

Without a second doubt, she placed the small animal on her face and smiled before asking a fellow fisherman to take a picture of her.

Her smile, however, didn’t last long. The octopus grabbed the woman’s skin with its strong jaws and bit her twice before letting go.

“It had barreled its beak into my chin and then let go a little bit and did it again,” Jamie said in an interview with KIRO. “It was a really intense pain when it went inside, and it just bled, dripping blood for a long time.”

The type of octopus that bit Jamie is the same species that uses its beak-like jaw to break through clams and crab shells before injecting powerful venom designed to kill the prey.

Sharing the incident on Facebook, Jamie wrote:

“Yes, that is an octopus on my face!! I didn’t know they had a beak that they can inject into you. Well, it happened to me. Ouch! My chin is swollen up and would not stop bleeding and now it’s just oozing. But I’m going to cook it for dinner!”

As Jamie also admitted, she was left in pain for two full days before she finally decided it was time to go to the hospital.

“And I’m still in pain. I’m on three different antibiotics. This can come and go, the swelling, for months, they say,” she added.
