Shannon, a big fan of fizzy drinks, faced a “deep depression” and she tried to cure it with takeaways and Irn-Bru.

The diet had its effect on her body. Shannon went from a size 12 to a size 24 and started weighing at a hefty 238lbs in summer 2017.

The journey of Shannon’s transformation back to a normal size started in 2018 when she felt “afraid” to wear a bikini while on a holiday in Spain.

It was when she decided to change her life for good. She made an Instagram page, @thelittlelifeofshazzap, to share the story of her weight loss.

It has 30,000 followers as of now.

Speaking about the fire initiated by a tumble dryer explosion that devastated her home and life back in 2017, she said: “I was heartbroken, we lost everything. All of my childhood disappeared.

“My mum nearly died and I was made redundant the next day – after working there for four years.”

“I’m addicted to Irn-Bru,” she continued. “Mum wouldn’t let me drink it. I’d buy it on the way home from school and the obsession continued.”

Shannon’s depression came with more than six takeaway meals a week.

“Some people have drugs, drink, gambling – I had food,” she said. Shannon used spandex to “suck” her fat in and look a bit slimmer than she was.

Thankfully, all of it started changing in 2018.

After being introduced to Slimming World by her boyfriend’s sister, Shannon made a remarkable transformation from 238lbs to 150lbs and that too without giving up Irn-Bru.

“If I don’t have one I’ll start feeling funny and get a little angry,” she explained her relationship with the drink. “It’s about moderation.”

Shannon, who is native to Bradford, West Yorks, says she now feels the “best version of myself.”

She went back to Spain the next year and enjoyed her bikini, instead of being ashamed this time. “I get messages from people who want to know how I turned it around,” she said.

“There’s a healthy, realistic way for any girl to feel confident, they don’t need to starve.”
