A woman was left stunned after discovering that the reason for not receiving any replies from potential employers was in her resume.
As an unnamed man revealed in his Reddit post, his girlfriend didn’t receive any response from potential employers despite applying for job openings for several months using her resume.
While her experiences likely weren’t the cause of the lack of replies, the name on the top of her resume definitely was – We’ll get back to that in a bit!
According to the man who shared the story on Reddit, his girlfriend asked him to save her resume in a new file on her computer. While doing so, however, he failed to notice that the PC automatically changed the name on top of the resume (his girlfriend’s real name) to her computer’s username.
Months after the mishap, the woman decided to check on her resume and update it only to discover that her real name on the document was replaced by ‘Princess Banana Hamm’, short for Princess Banana Hammock – the name used by Phoebe in the TV show Friends.
After the resume fail was discovered, the girlfriend was allegedly upset with her boyfriend for not realizing what had happened when she asked him to re-save her resume on her PC.
“Obligatory this happened 3 months ago & we finally realized what happened today. One day while my girlfriend was at work she asked me to go on her computer which was open at home,” the guy explained in his post.
“All I had to do was re-save her resume in a new file titled ‘gf’s resume’. Simple right? Wrong… Whilst saving said resume, her computer thought it would be funny to change the name header back to the profile user name. PRINCESS BANANA HAMMOCK, which was then shortened to Princess Banana Hamm due to spacing.
“Neither of us noticed. Fast forward to today, she goes to update her resume to apply for a new job and there it was. The bane of her existence. We both immediately realized why she hasn’t been getting called back for any interviews.
“Needless to say she’s not too impressed with me right now & I’m not allowed to do anything on her computer for her ever again. Happy holidays, at least next year she might get some calls back.”
After the post went viral, people were quick to see the funny side of it. While some people suggested that mistakes such as this one are the part of life that we learn from, others suggested it was the girlfriend’s fault that this happened because she didn’t double-check her resume before sending it to potential employers.
“Honestly, at a certain point it became her fault for not double checking her resume each time she submitted it,” someone wrote.
“That’s an awesome name. I would say it’s actually conceivable that she could have received a call back with that name because the fan of Friends resume screener in HR thought she was trying to be clever and standout,” another one suggested.
One person said: “You will laugh about it in time. Like what if she lands the job of her dreams…that she never would have been looking for if the Banana Hammock resume hadn’t happened?”
