A mother who was charged and sentenced to 15 years in prison after killing her ‘monster’ husband has been released.
53-year-old Tina Talbot served 20 months of her sentence after she pleaded guilty to the voluntary manslaughter of Milosz Szczepanowicz, Detroit Free Press reported.
Days before he died, her husband hit her with a chair and caused both of her lungs to partially collapse. He also brutally beat her up and broke her ribs and arms.
Talbot shot him twice in September 2018 and immediately called the police. Officers took photos of her severe injuries and she was rushed to a hospital.
But the judge insisted that what Talbot did was a crime despite being severely abused.
Oakland County Circuit Judge Martha said at the mother’s sentencing: “Ms. Talbot was severely abused in this relationship, but the taking of another life is still a crime, and that has to be accounted for.”
After serving 20 months, Talbot finally walked out of Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Michigan.
The mother was granted an early release after her self-defense plea to the parole board.
Talbot broke down in tears as she embraced her 9-year-old son, telling him that she loved him so much.
Talbot’s friend, Michelle Bain, said: “She should have never been here. She’s just the sweetest thing in the world. He was a monster.”
One person commented: “Horrendous, yet if he was a burglar and she’d shot him she wouldn’t have been prosecuted. Crikey surely it was self defense.”
Another wrote: “US again, poor girl and her 9 year old! The US justice system wants to remember how many people it wrongly kills each year! Apparently legally.”
