A woman from Utah has been arrested after cops said she impersonated her daughter during a traffic stop.
38-year-old Heather Garcia was pulled over after cops noticed she was driving a car that did not have a license plate.
While searching her BMW, police allegedly found a ‘white powdery substance’ and drug paraphernalia. According to Gephardt Daily, the substance later tested positive for meth.
Police asked her to identify herself but Garcia said to police that her name was Mercedes and that she was born in 1998.
But records check found that Mercedes was her daughter and that Garcia already had outstanding warrants.
The arresting officer wrote in a report obtained by Gephardt Daily: “I went back to my patrol vehicle and performed a records search on the name given.” He said that the image that came back ‘appeared to be a different individual.’
Investigators discovered the woman had outstanding warrants and took Garcia into custody.
The 38-year-old was booked into the Davis County Jail on charges of driving with a revoked license, drug possession, and false information to a peace officer.
Garcia was also booked on her outstanding warrants, including no proof of insurance and drug possession, according to online records from the Utah Department of Public Safety.
It is not clear if she had retained an attorney or entered a plea to the charges against her.
She remains in Davis County Jail on $9,077 bond.
