50-Year-Old Woman And 61-Year-Old Husband Welcome Their First Child After Trying To Conceive For 13 Years

A 50-year-old woman and her 61-year-old husband welcomed their first child after 13 years of trying to conceive.

Susie and Tony Troxler from North Carolina turned to IVF and egg donation after more than a decade of trying. And on September 29, Susie gave birth to Lily Antonia Troxler via C-section.

“It was so surreal,” Susie said in a press release. “Everything had come together for that moment to happen. It’s hard to wrap our heads around — we’re no longer just husband and wife, we’re ‘mommy’ and ‘daddy.’”

Tony was in his late 40s and Susie in her late 30s when they tied the knot. They immediately tried to conceive thinking there would be no problems.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Susie said: “When we got married, we just assumed we’d get pregnant, and then it didn’t happen.

“But we’re both very old-school, and when we grew up, nobody even talked about or discussed IVF. It wasn’t even a thing.”

Susie then discussed the matter with a doctor three years ago.

“Near the end of my appointment, Dr. Harraway-Smith asked, ‘Is there anything else?’ If she hadn’t asked that question, then this baby probably wouldn’t be here,” she expressed.

Dr. Carolyn Harraway-Smith said: “I was disappointed to hear her say that no one had ever queried them or given them their options for fertility.”

Susie was then diagnosed with fibroids, muscular tumors on the uterus wall that are usually benign. She underwent surgery to have them removed but she was told that she won’t be able to get pregnant naturally.

That’s when they tried IVF but when they failed to produce a viable embryo, they turned to egg donation.

“It’s really, really, really surreal,” Susie said after she gave birth to Lily, their ‘little warrior princess.’

“She’s our miracle baby,” she added.
