A 27-year-old woman from New York faces up to six years in prison after she hired a hitman to kill her ex-husband’s 5-year-old daughter and mother.
Elsy Rodriguez-Garcia has pleaded guilty to hiring the hitman, explaining that she just wanted to spend more time with her ex-husband.
She will be sentenced to between two and six years behind bars on April 15.
According to reports, Rodriguez-Garcia separated from her ex-husband in January 2019. When he started spending most of his time in Ecuador, she concocted a plan to take him back.
The 27-year-old, who worked in a pediatrician’s office, called a hitman in Ecuador via WhatsApp and asked him to kill her ex-husband’s mother and five-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Suffolk County district attorney Timothy Sini said that it was part of Rodriguez-Garcia’s plan so her ex-husband could spend more time with her.
Rodriguez-Garcia said that she arranged the plan in Ecuador as she thought that she won’t get caught.
She gave the hitman the address and photos of the targets and agreed to pay $6,000 for the murders.
Her ex-husband learned of her scheme and immediately tipped off the police, who then photoshopped a photo of the ‘murders’ and sent it to Rodriguez-Garcia as ‘proof.’
She was then arrested on July 13.
“This is a shocking and disturbing case,” Sini said.
“The defendant’s intentions were very clear that she wanted this person murdered, and she was ready and willing to pay for it.
Thankfully law enforcement was notified and able to intervene before anyone got hurt, and today’s guilty plea ensures she is held accountable.”
Her attorney, William Ferro, said in a statement: “This plea brings closure to a tragic case for all involved, including my client.
“The plea and the resultant time she has served for it should be sufficient to satisfy the interests of justice.”
