A Nebraska woman has recently rescued 3 fawns trapped in a shallow well after hearing and following the sound of their cries.
The incident happened on the evening of Mon, July 16, when Morgan Brumm heard some concerning sounds as she stepped outside her home. “I hear this horrible cry,” Brumm told The Dodo.
Her mother, who had also heard the cries, was worried about what they might find if they try to track down the source of distressing sounds. However, Brumm knew she had to act and she did!
“I headed into our backyard on a trail we always go down and I see a mama deer to my left. She sees me and runs away,” Brumm told.
“I remember that there is a well nearby. So I walked towards it not really knowing what I was gonna see. I peeked in a bit and only saw one head. I thought, ‘All right, I can do this.’ I took another step forward and saw three. I was blown away.”
Brumm saw 3 fawns trapped inside the shallow well. The well was about 8 feet deep and the deer babies were not able to make it out on their own.
Brumm wanted to rescue them but knew she won’t be able to do it by herself so she decided to seek help.
“I called my best friend’s dad to see if he could come down and help,” Brumm recalled. “He came within five minutes, laid next to the well and pulled all three babies out.”
Although her friend’s dad chose to remain anonymous, his good deed was recorded in a heartwarming video.
The man pulled the fawns out of the well in less than 3o seconds who then ran off to probably find their mother.
“They all ran away and we are hoping they are reunited with their mama,” Brumm said. “We are looking out because we’d love to get a picture for everyone that they are back together.”
The well was then covered so as to prevent any similar future mishap.
