A woman with the world’s most gigantic hands ever recorded has spoken out about her ordeal and revealed why she was forced out of hiding.
59-year-old Duangjay Samaksamam from Thailand was born with a severe form of Macrodystrophia lipomatosa, a rare congenital disorder that results in localized overgrowth of tissue.
Ever since she was just 9 years old, Duangjay hid away from the world because she was embarrassed by her condition and afraid of what her peers would think of her.
During the decades that followed, Duangjay had struggled to perform and master the simplest of tasks such as washing her hair and brushing her teeth due to the size and weight of her arms and hands. According to the reports, each of the woman’s hands weighs as much as 7 pounds.
“My hands are so heavy I can barely lift them to comb or shampoo my hair, it’s very difficult. Getting dressed is also very difficult and painful,” she said.
“Some doctors said the only solution was to cut off my hands if I wished to walk around freely. But I don’t want to do that.”
As years passed, the brave lady came out of hiding when it was time to take over her parents’ grocery store and take care of her elderly mother and father.
She also explained that she had undergone a series of surgeries which allegedly only worsened her situation.
“This case is very rare. Both her arms are enlarged. Her arms and hands are enormous so they swell badly, but it could be worse,” Plastic surgeon Dr Eiju Uchinuma said of the woman’s case.
“My diagnosis is that she is the first and only person in the world who has Macrodystrophia Lipomatosa from shoulders to her fingers on both arms.
“The cause of the disease is unknown and is therefore incurable.”
