The Oregon woman who went missing on January 13 was found buried under mud and rock ten days after her disappearance.
50-year-old Jennifer Camus Moore was a dedicated nurse, a loving wife, and a caring mother-of-two who vanished after her car got hit by a landslide in Dodson.
The incident took place on the early morning of January 13, whereas the nurse’s car was swept off the pavement by a massive landslide at around 1:15 am.
At the time of the accident, Jennifer was reportedly driving closely behind her husband who was talking with her over the phone. Suddenly, however, her car was hit by the landslide and knocked off the road.
After 10 days of a desperate search for the mother-of-two, the rescuers discovered Jennifer’s vehicle and found her body buried under 15 feet of debris.
“In the days following the landslide, searchers identified an area in the debris flow where they believed Moore’s vehicle likely came to rest. Searchers estimated her vehicle was buried under 15 feet of mud, rock and logs,” Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
“It’s not the outcome everyone would have hoped for but at least at this point, it brings closure to the family and allows them to begin the grieving process,” Sgt. Steve Dangler of the River Patrol Unit added.
The search mission that took ten days to complete was reportedly extremely difficult due to the instability of the wet terrain and the size of the area affected by the landslide.
The authorities resorted to the use of heavy machinery to move through the area.
The Sheriff’s office also partnered with a private company that used an advanced metal detector to locate the victim’s car and retrieve her body from underneath the mud.“Our beautiful Jenny has finally been found. Although I thought I might feel relief on this day, I don’t,” Stephanie Lawson, Moore’s colleague at the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, wrote in her post after the tragic discovery.
“The pain, disbelief and devastation is still here. I’m reminded about how tragically this beautiful soul left our earth. I know healing takes time but for today, I’m still utterly heartbroken for my friend, Jennifer Moore.”
Our thoughts are with Jennifer’s family during these hard times.
