31-year-old Olesya Suspitsyna fell from a 115-foot cliff while posing for a photo to celebrate the end of coronavirus lockdown in their country.
She died in front of her friend who was taking the photo in Antalya city in the southwest of Turkey.
The accident occurred after the government lifted the COVID-19 quarantine lockdown in the city.
According to reports, the women visited the famous Duden Park, known for its breathtaking waterfalls, after weeks of having to stay indoors due to lockdown rules.
Olesya, who worked as a tour guide for the last 5 years, decided to have a photo taken on the edge of the cliff with the scenic waterfalls in the background.
The 31-year-old climbed over the safety fence and posed for the photo but she slipped on the grass and fell from the 115-foot cliff.
Her shocked friend immediately contacted emergency services and local rescuers pulled Olesya’s body out of the water.
Police investigated the incident and concluded it was an accident, said Olesya’s family.
“Olesya was a smart and cheerful person. She set goals and made them happen,” a relative told Kazakh media.
Her friends also expressed their pain and condolences to her family on social media, with Zlatadzyuba writing: “I cannot believe you’re gone. I see you alive and smiling in my memory. Terrible loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.”
Zlobi wrote: “She always said she was happy to live in this city. It was her place in the world.”
Olga said: “Olesya always loved the sea and dreamed of living in Turkey. She made her dream come true. More than anything she loved the feeling of freedom. This is an irreparable loss. My heart is broken.”
