58-Year-Old Woman Falls 250 Feet From An Overlook At A State Park In Georgia


A 58-year-old woman tragically died after she fell 250 feet from an overlook at a state park in Georgia.

Nancy Moore Smith was visiting the Tullulah Gorge State Park when she fell to her death from Overlook 2, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said.

Emergency services from two counties rushed to the scene and found her body at the bottom.

Paramedics from Ruben and Habersham counties responded to the scene and used long ropes to retrieve Smith’s body.

GDNR’s Law Enforcement Critical Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating her death.

Officers have been reviewing witnesses and the woman’s family members to determine what happened.

According to NowHabersham.com, Smith managed to climb outside of the railing and was having a conversation with a ranger when she fell.

GDNR spokesperson Mark McKinnon refused to deny or confirm that report.

He told New York Post: “Witness statements are part of the ongoing investigation. If that is true, the investigation will show it.”

A Facebook page featuring photos of Smith hiking around Georgia was flooded with tributes, with family members remembering her as a ‘beautiful soul.’

One person commented: “Condolences to her family.”

A third added: “Very sad for her.”

Tallulah Gorge is almost 1,000 feet deep and was made famous in 1970 when Karl Wallenda, the founder of the Flying Wallendas, walked on a wire across the George.
